LSU Modernizes Administrative Systems With Workday in the Cloud

Louisiana's Flagship Institution Looks to the Future With Greater Flexibility, Data Insights, and a Mobile-First Approach

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 9, 2015) -  Workday, Inc.(NYSE: WDAY), a leader in enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources, announced today that Louisiana State University (LSU) has selected Workday's unified solution for higher education, including Workday Financial Management, Workday Human Capital Management, Workday Payroll, Workday Expenses and Workday Grants Management, as well as Workday Recruiting and Workday Big Data Analytics. Delivered in the cloud, Workday will give LSU a modern technology foundation across its campuses, gaining flexibility, speed, and data insights to help drive institutional and student success today and in the future.

LSU is the flagship institution of the LSU System, with more than 25,000 undergraduate and approximately 5,000 graduate students. LSU recently conducted a re-organization review of the LSU System called LSU2015. The goal of LSU2015 is to bring together the resources of the various units of the current LSU System to create a single, globally competitive LSU with statewide reach that is more efficient and more productive in the areas of educating its students, creating robust collaborative research, delivering effective health care, impacting economic development, and conducting public service activities. As part of this plan, LSU is modernizing its information systems, replacing decades-old legacy mainframes with one unified finance and human resources system for administrators, faculty, and staff across its campuses.

With Workday, LSU expects to gain benefits including:

  • Flexible Technology that Evolves with Higher Education Needs
Workday is built to be flexible, enabling institutions to easily set up new business processes or make changes when necessary. With Workday, LSU will streamline business processes across campuses and automate workflows, eliminating manual tasks and enabling the university to shift resources to more critical missions of the institution. Since Workday is delivered in the cloud, LSU will always be on the most current version and will no longer face the costly and time-consuming upgrades of legacy systems. LSU also expects to benefit from Workday Community collaboration with other higher education customers to optimize and influence system capabilities as well as future enhancements.
  • Analytics to Inform Decision-Making
With Workday, analytics are built into the application, enabling administrators, faculty, and staff to drill down into real-time dashboards and insightful reporting relevant to individual needs. With its campuses unified on one system in the cloud, LSU expects its employees will be able to access data faster and gain meaningful and timely insights that can help with decision-making. For example, administrators can view current adjunct faculty costs at any given time and track it against the number of hours those individuals have worked, enabling them to better manage staffing and reduce costs.
  • Mobile Self-Service to Empower Employees
Workday's application is built for mobile first with a design inspired by the consumer web to make navigation easy for all employees. With Workday, LSU expects to give employees greater flexibility in how they work, enabling them to access information and perform tasks whenever and wherever necessary. For example, principal investigators will be able to check grant funding versus expenses from their mobile devices to ensure appropriate spending levels at any juncture of a grant year or timeframe.
